Chris Hemsworth’s Cameo Is The Best Part of ‘Interceptor’

US

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Interceptor on Netflix.

Husband-and-wife action hero duo Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth have finally teamed up for a movie together with Interceptor, which is now streaming on Netflix.

In Interceptor, which was directed by Matthew Reilly with a screenplay from Reilly and Stuart Beattie, Pataky stars as JJ, a U.S. Army captain on a missile interceptor base in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Should Russia ever launch a nuclear attack on the U.S., it’s JJ’s job to shoot that missile out of the sky. When an American traitor named Alexander Kessel (played by Luke Bracey) sneaks onto the base and kills nearly everyone on board, the only thing standing between him and nuclear destruction is JJ.

It’s a pretty serious subject for a pretty serious movie, but thankfully, there are a few fun appearances from a certain Marvel actor to lighten the mood.

That’s right—in addition to serving as an executive producer on Interceptor, Hemsworth is also featured a few times in an Interceptor cameo.

IS CHRIS HEMSWORTH IN INTERCEPTOR?

Yes. About halfway through the movie, Hemsworth appears as an electronics store worker in Los Angeles, sporting long Thor-like hair and a big, bushy beard. Hemsworth is in the middle of attempting to sell a big-screen TV—”it has a big screen, the sound is ehhh, but I don’t really listen to the TV, I play music when I’m watching stuff”—when he’s interrupted by a broadcast from the movie’s villain (played by Luke Bracey) describing his evil plan to save the world.

It’s a welcome moment of levity in an otherwise deadly serious movie. Even in such a short amount of screentime, Hemsworth nails his comedic timing—like when all his customers run from the store screaming, and he says, perplexed, “We’re not closing yet.”

He pops again a few more times, to cheer on his IRL wife Elsa Pataky as her character performs impossible feats to save America from nuclear destruction. And then he makes one final appearance.

IS THERE AN INTERCEPTOR POST-CREDITS SCENE?

Yes. The Interceptor ending ties everything up nicely—Madame President has just hired JJ to be on the presidential National Security staff, her father isn’t dead after all,  and she’s just inherited Turbo the turtle, so things are looking up. But if you stick around for the credits, you’ll be treated to a mid-credits scene featuring Hemsworth sleeping on the job, snoring loudly and pecs jiggling gently in one of the electronics store’s massage chairs.

It is, in all honesty, the best part of the movie. Headcannon for Thor’s depression days accepted.
