While a large majority of states and communities joined the giant agreement, Alabama, Oklahoma, Washington and West Virginia did not, and a few communities took the distributors to trial. In a May 2021 trial in West Virginia, prosecutors revealed an email from AmerisourceBergen executives that mocked West Virginia residents as “pillbillies.”
