In episode 1 the teams travel to Malabar in Sydney’s eastern suburbs to meet a family who live in a cute cottage near the ocean but need more space for a growing family.

Do you love the area you live in but your home is a little tired and you are in need of more space? You want a home that is healthy, efficient, comfortable, and stylish but you are not sure if it is better to renovate or rebuild your home.
Renovate or Rebuild is about answering the question – should I renovate or rebuild my home?
The program is based around a family who love where they live but need some more space to grow. They want a home that is healthy, energy efficient, with solar power and home energy storage, facilities for an electric vehicle, and the best home design.
Two teams then compete to come up with the best home design for the family using concepts like passive solar design, architectural design, best home design ideas, amazing kitchen design ideas, amazing bathroom design ideas, the latest interior design ideas, and how to design a solar power system for your home including a home battery storage system.
Team Renovate
Michael and Carlene make up the dynamic husband and wife team behind Team Renovate, and believe that you can renovate your home to maintain the character and charm whilst creating a modern home that feels healthy, comfortable, and fresh.
The renovating duo made their mark on the record-rating season of Channel Nine’s, The Block and the inaugural season of Reno Rumble before launching into the world of home design with fervent passion.
Michael and Carlene are hosts of home renovation and lifestyle shows, Ready Set Reno on Channel 9’s 9Life and Open Homes Australia also on 9Life.
The couple are also parents to Paddy (9) and Stella (7) who are the junior renovators of the family and who keep them both, simultaneously grounded and on their toes.
Michael and Carlene need to come up with the best solution for the family with the best renovation ideas, considerations for bathroom renovations, the renovation costs, kitchen renovations, home improvement ideas, as well as how to make best use of the existing building materials to create a home that is energy efficient, and can use solar power and home battery energy storage to provide all of its energy needs. To achieve this they will need to consider the passive solar design of the home, the use of energy efficient appliances and of course they need to understand how to create a budget for a renovation, how much renovations cost, and how to renovate a home.
Team Rebuild
Norm and Jess were contestants on Channel 9’s 2018 series of The Block. A builder by trade, who owns his own company Mr Build, Norm was right at home amongst the dirt and rubble of The Block. Woman of many talents, Jess is a two-time national lawn bowls champion, former tomato picker and mum to Freddie, four, and Matilda, two.
Jess was a co-host on Sunshine Coast’s 91.9 Sea FM breakfast show from 2012 -2018, and also launched her own online childcare support service, Sick Sit in 2017.
Norm and Jess have recently relocated to Sydney, where Jess is a co-host on Triple M’s new breakfast show for 2019, Moonman in the Morning, alongside Lawrence Mooney, Gus Worland and Chris Page.
Norm and Jess believe that the only way to save this home is to knock it down and rebuild a new home. They will need to come up with a winning home design to create the best new home for the family by considering the best orientation of the home, passive solar design, the selection of energy efficient appliances, and how to create a home that produces all of its own power with a home solar and battery system. They will also need to understand how much it costs to knockdown and rebuild a home as they come up with the best home design ideas including kitchen designs ideas, bathroom design ideas, access to natural light and ventilation.
The show is a great resources for anyone planning a renovation, looking to remodel, looking for renovation ideas and tips, building a new home, looking for home design ideas, and uses virtual reality to create a before and after view of the home.
