AUSTIN (KXAN) — With one match left in the 2024 season, Austin FC fired head coach Josh Wolff, the club announced Sunday.
In a press release, club officials said there was a meeting with Wolff, majority owner Anthony Precourt and sporting director Rodolfo Borrell on Sunday morning to discuss the decision. Austin FC lost 2-1 to league-leading LA Galaxy on Saturday in Los Angeles to fall to 10-14-9 and miss the postseason for the second consecutive season.

“After back-to-back seasons without playoff qualification, we realize that a fresh start is required next season under the leadership of a new head coach,” Precourt said. “As the first manager in Club history, we would like to extend our gratitude for Josh’s role in the growth and development of our Club. It will always be appreciated.”
A yet-to-be-named interim manager will take the reins for Austin’s final match of the season Oct. 19 at home against the Colorado Rapids. Borrell said a search for a new manager will begin “immediately.”
“As an organization, our on-field ambitions are to be among the highest performing clubs in MLS year-over-year,” he said. “To do that, progression is essential, and looking forward, we’ll now immediately begin a search for a new manager who can help us translate our ambition into consistent, high-level performance.”
Wolff was the first manager in club history and led the team to the Western Conference finals in 2022, but that was the only season Austin made the MLS playoffs in Wolff’s tenure. He finished with a 45-30-60 record in MLS play during four seasons with the club.
