A North Andover man has been charged with unlawful possession of firearms and explosives, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Daniel Medina, 64, was arrested after a search of his home by police yielded more than 30 different firearms and explosives, according to officials.

Police found 32 firearms — including rifles, pistols, shotguns, and antique guns — as well as 9,000 rounds of various ammunition, 75 magazines for various caliber firearms, as well as books on building firearms, and manufacturing explosives and drugs, among other things.

In July, police came to the scene of an explosion at Medina’s residence, according to the statement. When police arrived on the scene in North Andover, they found damage to two different vehicles as well as a piece of mail addressed to Medina underneath the rear passenger door of one of the cars, according to officials.

The damage to the vehicles was allegedly consistent with the use of homemade explosive devices, according to the statement. Witnesses allegedly also saw Medina run back into his home following the explosion, according to officials.

Medina is not allowed to possess firearms due to a 2002 assault and battery conviction. He was sentenced to two and a half years in jail, according to the statement.

Medina faces various charges related to the unlawful possession of firearms and explosives, as well as being a felon in possession of those items.
