Triple H Introduces New Championship for WWE Crown Jewel

US

WWE offers multiple championships throughout all of its brands, including world championships, mid-card championships, and tag team championships.

Still, fans and wrestlers alike are clamoring for new titles to enter the fold. For example, Karrion Kross wants to see a WWE Extreme Championship be introduced.

Additionally, multiple superstars are asking for a mid-card women’s championship similar to the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the WWE United States Championship.

Well, it looks like WWE management has been listening… kind of.

At Bad Blood 2024, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque made history with the introduction of a brand-new championship to be fought for annually at Crown Jewel Premium Live Events (PLE).

At the event, the reigning WWE Champion will face the reigning World Champion, for both men and women.

While neither title will be on the line, they will instead fight for the Crown Jewel Championship.

This means that Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will face off against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, presuming he successfully defends his title against Sami Zayn on Monday Night Raw.

Additionally, WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax will battle Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan since she successfully held onto her title after Roxanne Perez attacked Rhea Ripley in the match, leading to a disqualification.

Although they haven’t really happened recently, Champion vs. Champion matches have been a staple in the professional wrestling industry, especially when the brand split was first introduced in WWE.

The most recent Champion vs. Champion match also took place at King & Queen of the Ring this year, with then-WWE United States Champion Logan Paul challenging Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes for his title.

The last time the main event title holders for Raw and SmackDown faced each other for their titles occurred at WrestleMania 38 Night 2 when Universal Champion Roman Reigns defeated WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.

While this doesn’t introduce a new title opportunity for other wrestlers on the roster, this is still an exciting opportunity to see matches that will not normally be showcased throughout the year.

The last time a new championship was introduced was on April 24, 2023, when the World Heavyweight Championship was brought to Raw. WWE has also introduced the WWE Women’s Speed Championship since then, but it is only defended on X.

WWE Crown Jewel 2024 is set to stream on Peacock in the US and the WWE Network everywhere else on Nov. 2, 2024.
