Onetime Nets Dikembe Mutombo, Vince Carter still inspire

US

The Nets had a pair of former greats in the news this week for very different reasons, both magic and tragic.

Vince Carter is set to be enshrined in the Naismith Hall of Fame next weekend, the culmination of a high-flying career that inspired many.

And Dikembe Mutombo — who’d already been enshrined in Springfield back in 2015 — passed away this week from cancer, having inspired just as many with his humanitarian efforts as his play.

Even though they never overlapped on the Nets and had very different stays — Carter their third all-time leading scorer, Mutombo playing just two dozen games — both left lasting imprints on the franchise and memories with the fans.
