Police search for man who stole woman's phone on CTA bus

CHICAGO — Police are asking for help in the search for a man who officers believe was involved in a robbery on a CTA bus last week.

According to Chicago police, the incident unfolded just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, on a northbound #8 Halsted bus.

Officers said a woman was sitting on the bus with her phone in her hand when a person forcibly took the phone from her and fled from the rear of the bus.

A search for the person responsible is now underway.

Officers said they believed the person responsible was a male who was believed to be in his late teens or early twenties and stood between 6-foot-2 and 6 feet tall.

On Friday, police provided photos captured by CTA security cameras showing the man wanted in connection with the robbery.

In the photos, the person can be seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans that were ripped above the knees and brown and white Jordan brand shoes.

Police advise the public to remain aware of their surroundings and stay free from distractions. According to officers, anyone who is confronted by an assailant should try to remain calm.

Authorities warn the public never to pursue a fleeing assailant and instead work to remember any unique physical characteristics of the offenders. 

Police say those who fall victim or witness a crime should call 911 immediately and provide authorities with a detailed description of the offenders.
