AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin City Council has given itself a longer time to consider a “tentative” contract agreement with the Austin Police Association before adopting it, announcing it will push back the date it will make its decision by two weeks.

The contract agreement was previously scheduled for discussion on Oct. 10. Now, it will be on Oct. 24.

The press release said the council decided to move the agenda item “in the interest of allowing more time to review and to gather additional public input.”

The city council will be briefed on the tentative agreement during its Oct. 8 work session. Those wishing to speak at that meeting can sign up online after 5 p.m. Friday.

Signups to speak at the Oct. 24 meeting have not been posted yet.

The contract includes raises for Austin Police officers and a night shift stipend, KXAN previously reported. If approved by council, APA members will then need to vote on whether to accept it.
