San Jose Sharks assign Yaroslav Askarov to San Jose Barracuda

US

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks assigned goalie Yaroslav Askarov, who is now healthy, to the Barracuda of the AHL on Friday.

Askarov missed all of the Sharks’ training camp due to a lower-body injury he incurred in early September. Askarov is expected to practice with the Barracuda later Friday morning, although he is not expected to play Friday night when the Barracuda play a preseason game in Bakersfield.

The Sharks now have just two goalies in camp: Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek.

Askarov, minor league forward Nolan Burke, and a 2025 third-round pick were acquired by the Sharks from the Nashville Predators in August for a 2025 first-round pick, and forward David Edstrom, both previously acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights in the Tomas Hertl trade in March.
