Robbers exploit delivery, rideshare services to target drivers in Garfield Park thefts

CHICAGO — Chicago police are warning locals who use delivery and rideshare services.

On Wednesday, CPD issued a community alert concerning several incidents in which a group of 2-4 males made use of food delivery and rideshare services to lure victims to their location.

In these incidents, the males rob the driver of their personal belongings, their vehicle, or both.

According to police, one instance saw the unidentified offenders enter the vehicle posing as passengers. During the trip, however, the offenders produced handguns and ordered the victim to exit the car.

Police said all six incidents occurred in the city’s Garfield Park neighborhood over a nearly three-day, 72-hour span.

Incident dates and locations include:

  • 4100 block of W. Maypole Ave. on Sept. 29 at 3 a.m.
  • 4100 block of W. Maypole Ave. on Sept. 29 at 6:27 a.m.
  • 4200 block of W. Maypole Ave. on Sept. 30 at 9:10 p.m.
  • 4400 block of W. Maypole Ave. on Sept. 30. at 10:22 p.m.
  • 4100 block of W. Madison St. on Oct.1 at 2 a.m.
  • 200 block of N. Keeler Ave. on Oct. 1 at 2:01 a.m.

No one is in custody.
