APD seeking public help to find suspect accused of assaulting elderly man

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is seeking the public’s help to find a suspect accused of assaulting an elderly man at a central Austin grocery store in September, the agency said in a news release Tuesday.

The alleged assault happened around 6:16 p.m., Sept. 11 at the Central Market, located at 4001 North Lamar Boulevard, the release said. Police said the suspect approached the elderly man and “aggressively shoved” him to the ground. The elderly man got back up, and then the suspect “pushed him two more times,” the release said.

The suspect is described as a white man, who is around 35-45 years old, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet 1 inches and weighs anywhere between 175 to 210 pounds, according to police. Additionally, the suspect is described as having long, black, ponytail-length hair and has a full, dark beard with grey hair in the chin.

Anyone who has any information on the alleged assault can submit an anonymous tip to the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program on it website or call 512-472-8477, the release said.

A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest, police said.
