Police chase sparks deadly crash in McKinley Park

A four mile-long police chase ended in a crash that left one person dead and two others injured early Tuesday on the South Side.

Around 2 a.m., members of a robbery team were on patrol when they saw two people believed to be armed enter a black Lexus sedan in the area of the 5500 block of South Pulaski Road, Chicago police said.

Officers began pursuing the sedan, which fled at a “high rate of speed” before running a red light and hitting a building about four miles away in the 3500 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

A passenger of the Lexus was ejected from the vehicle and dead on the scene while the driver was taken to Stroger with a leg injury, police said.

The driver of the Kia was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a hand injury.

No officers were injured and the crash was being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.

No charges have been announced.
