Man in car shot by someone in another car; vehicles later crash: CPD

A man sitting in the passenger seat of a car was shot by someone in another car early Monday in the United Center neighborhood, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The department said the shooting took place in the 200 block of South Ashland Avenue around 1:40 a.m.

After the shooting, the cars continued driving on Ashland Avenue and came to a stop “when each vehicle struck a building” in the 1800 block of Ashland Avenue, which is more than a mile south of where the shooting occurred, according to police.

Occupants of the shooter’s car fled the crash scene. The victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. He had a gunshot wound in his torso, according to police.

No one was in custody as of around 2:50 a.m., and the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated by Chicago police detectives.
