Bay FC moves into eighth place in NWSL playoff race with win in Seattle

SEATTLE – Asisat Oshoala scored a penalty kick, and Bay FC held on for a 1-0 road win against the Seattle Reign at Lumen Field on Sunday to boost its playoff hopes heading into the final month of the regular season.

In the 27th minute, Oshoala sent her penalty into the lower left corner after the Reign were whistled for a foul in the box.

The win moved the expansion squad into a tie with Portland for seventh place in the NWSL with 28 points. The top eight teams advance into the playoffs.

Bay FC (9-12-1) has four games remaining in the regular season, including Saturday’s game at third-place Gotham FC. Bay FC’s next three opponents are currently in the Top-5 of the playoff chase. They conclude the regular season on Nov. 2 at the last-place Houston Dash.

After going unbeaten in seven straight games, the Reign (5-12-5) have now lost three straight.
