WWE Legends React to Shocking Title Loss on Monday Night Raw

WWE Monday Night Raw on Sept. 23 caught everyone by surprise.

Bron Breakker had proven to be a dominant WWE Intercontinental Champion, learning from his opponents and decimating them with his signature power and speed.

Yet, “Main Event” Jey Uso went on to defeat him to earn his first singles title since he joined WWE in 2010 alongside his brother, Jimmy Uso.

Jey’s victory ended Breakker’s title reign at just 51 days.

Fans and wrestling personalities around the world have reacted to Uso’s shocking victory, some in favor and some against.

One of the most vocal opponents of Uso’s victory was former WWE, WCW, and TNA creative Vince Russo, who declared the decision made “zero sense” on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s “Legion of RAW.”

“They needed to build Bron Breakker,” Russo said. “They needed to leave a title on him. I don’t even… I’m not guessing; I know he put some kind of heat on himself, and they had to take the belt off him to teach him and make sure he knows who’s boss. That booking decision makes zero sense.”

On the other side, former WCW World Heavyweight Champion and Royal Rumble winner Lex Luger said on his “Lex Expressed” podcast that he doesn’t believe this will hurt Breakker’s momentum at all.

“Yeah, that — he won’t miss a beat,” Luger said, per Robert Defelice of Fightful. “I thought that was great for Jey Uso because, I mean, that thing he does, the ‘YEET,’ he is so over. He’s having such a great run, I am so happy for him to accomplish that.”

“Also, even though he’s relatively new in the business, that’s not going to hurt Bron at all. He’s so talented. He’s going to be a staple in the WWE for the next, who knows, 15-20, years, he’s going to be a huge star, a multi-time world champion. I see nothing but the sky’s the limit for Bron.”

“So I think that was one of those situations where it was a win-win. I think Bron’s going to go on to even bigger, better things, obviously, for a long time, and it was great to see Jey get the title there. I thought that was a good move. I don’t think it’s gonna hurt Bron at all.”

It’s much easier to side with Luger in this debate. Breakker has garnered a ton of momentum since his NXT debut in 2020 and is easily one of the most exciting young wrestlers on the roster. He could easily be a main event figure in the near future.

Meanwhile, Jey Uso has been using the “Main Event” moniker but has yet to win a title. He needed this to become a threat for world titles in the future.

Breakker and Uso are going to be fine. In fact, this opens up new storytelling avenues for them both. It’s exciting to see where they both will go.
