AUSTIN (KXAN) — There were some great moments in Texas’ 35-13 win over Mississippi State on Saturday, but there were also some pretty bad ones.
Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian described the program’s first Southeastern Conference game as “herky-jerky” with penalties and other self-inflicted wounds, but in the end, the top-ranked team in the country showed why voters put them there.
Arch Manning made his second consecutive start in place of an injured Quinn Ewers and was terrific with 324 passing yards and three total touchdowns. DeAndre Moore made four catches for 103 yards with two scores, and Sarkisian wasn’t even sure if he’d play at all due to a hip injury lingering from last week. Texas had 10 plays go for 20 or more yards to help overcome two fumbles, a turnover on downs and two penalties that wiped out touchdowns.

Texas has a bye week before an Oct. 12 showdown with rival Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl in the Red River Rivalry.
