Derrick Rose is calling it a career after 15 NBA seasons.
The former Knicks point guard announced his retirement in on Instagram Thursday, posting a photo of him holding a newspaper, which included a love letter to basketball.
“The next chapter is about chasing my dreams and sharing my growth,” Rose told The Athletic.
“I believe true success comes from becoming who you were created to be, and I want to show the world who I am beyond basketball.
“Whether good or bad, everyone has a ‘what if’ story in their life. Even if I could, I wouldn’t change anything in mine, because it’s what helped me find real joy.”
It came after Rose, who will turns 35 in October, shared an Instagram video of him holding a rose while journaling, captioned: “The Renascence 9.26.24.”
The Grizzlies waived rose on Monday.
Rose, the No. 1 pick of the 2008 draft, was the youngest MVP in NBA history in 2011, when he was 22 years old.
Rose was the 2009 Rookie of the Year and a three-time All-Star playing for the Bulls, Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pistons and Grizzlies.
What could have been a generational career, though, was held back by a series of knee injuries.
