A dog died from smoke inhalation after a house fire near East Quincy Avenue and South Reservoir Road in Aurora on Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded around 5:30 p.m. after a neighbor reported smoke coming from the home, according to Aurora Fire Rescue officials.
Smoke billowed out of the front door when firefighters entered the home and they found a fire in the kitchen. No one was home, but firefighters found a dog near the kitchen.
Firefighters attempted CPR on the dog but could not revive it, fire officials said in a news release. A cat was also rescued from the home and did not appear to be injured. Investigators determined the fire was accidental.
Three people were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
