Woman Reveals Difference Between Her 26lb and 7lb Cats—’House Panther’

US

A pet owner has delighted the internet by revealing the hilarious differences between her 26 pound cat and her much smaller 7 pound feline. But despite their stark contrast in size, there’s only one boss in town, and it isn’t the larger one of the two.

When Kelly Martino first saw the rescue cat named Jhett, she was instantly drawn to the tiny kitten who was the runt of the litter. Martino told Newsweek that she knew she “wasn’t going to be very big,” and even now at 3 years old, Jhett is still incredibly small, weighing just 7 pound.

After a while, Martino decided that Jhett needed some company and she has since rescued three other cats, including Jagger. While it’s easy for a cat to look bigger than normal next to Jhett, Jagger the “gentle giant” takes that to the extreme as his huge 26 pound frame dwarfs any other cat in his presence.

When the two black cats sit side by side, Jhett looks like a tiny kitten again rather than a fully grown adult. Martino shared a hilarious clip on Instagram (@mspagerix) to show just how striking the differences are between them, and it went viral with over 4.5 million views online.

“We adopted Jhett as a kitten. She was the runt of her litter and was so teeny, but my goodness she’s a feisty little thing,” Martino said. “Two years later we decided to adopt adult and senior cats, as they often wait for homes the longest and it’s so heartbreaking.

“Jagger was one of these cats and he was about 10 when we adopted him. I’ve never seen a kitty this big before and it broke my heart that everything in the shelter was so small for him. He was found on the streets as a stray and was not happy at the rescue. Him being huge and looking so miserable there wasn’t helping him get adopted, but I was just drawn to him.”

The viral Instagram post shows just how much larger Jagger’s scratching post is, how much bigger his claws are, and even how much space he takes up in the litter tray compared to Jhett. But don’t be fooled by his enormous size, as Martino says Jagger is “one of the sweetest” cats and he’s very happy to let Jhett run the show.

“I’d love to understand cat hierarchy. He’s the opposite of Jhett when it comes to wanting to rule the roost. He’s quiet and so easy going and just wants to give love and receive love,” she continued.

Jagger’s large size might have been off-putting to others before, but since finding his forever home he’s become so much happier. The so-called “house panther” loves spending time with his smaller feline sister, as Martino says they “hit it off immediately.”

He must have sensed that she was truly the boss of the house as Jagger started following Jhett around from the beginning. Now they’re practically inseparable, and they do everything from cuddling and playing, to eating together.

Martino said: “Jhett would literally flirt with him by dropping down in front of him on her back and wiggle around like a lioness exposing her belly. Size-wise, they look so funny next to each other, but she has him wrapped around her teeny paw, and he doesn’t seem to mind.”

By showing the wonderful bond between her rescue cats of all sizes, Martino hopes it will encourage others to consider adopting too. It doesn’t matter how large or old a cat is, they all need a forever home, and Martino hopes that more people will “take a chance on older animals” after seeing Jagger.

Jhett and Jagger’s friendship has amazed the internet, as many social media users commented on the post to marvel at their astonishing size difference.

One comment reads: “LOOK AT THE SIZE OF HIS HEAD. I love him.”

Another Instagram user wrote: “Your fur babies are absolutely adorable!”

Someone else added: “I love everything about this! Especially that she’s in charge.”
