3 keys to a Jets road win over the Titans in Week 2

OPEN UP PLAYBOOK FOR RODGERS

During Monday night’s loss against the 49ers, the Jets’ offense was too vanilla, with predictable run plays to begin the game. San Francisco was ready for a heavy dose of Breece Hall, which led to him only rushing for 54 yards in 16 carries.

This week, the Jets should take a different approach and use the passing attack to help open up the ground game. With Aaron Rodgers having a full game under his belt now, the 20-year veteran should feel more comfortable and play a lot better.

The Jets could get Rodgers into an early flow by using Hall in the screen game and going to Garrett Wilson on a few out routes. Also, going to more of 12 personnel (one RB, two TEs, and two WRs on the field) should also help the passing and run game be more efficient.

GET PRESSURE ON LEVIS

Titans quarterback Will Levis has an incredible skill set. But if the defense can consistently press him, it could force the second-year player into turnovers. That was the case last week in the 7-point loss to the Bears when Levis, on his knees, threw a terrible fourth-quarter interception to Tyrique Stevenson.

The Jets had trouble generating pressure on 49ers QB Brock Purdy last week. But using Quinnen Williams more as an edge rusher, opposite Jermaine Johnson, could be the recipe for the Jets’ defensive success.

CONTAIN TITANS RUSHING ATTACK

Gang Green’s rushing defense has been an issue since last season. On MNF, the 49ers ran for 180 yards against a defense that is, on paper, considered one of the best in the NFL.

The Titans’ passing attack was inconsistent against the Bears, but they rushed for 140 yards (5.4 yards per carry). Getting pressure on Levis and stopping the run go hand in hand.

If the Jets cannot contain the Titans’ ground game, that will open up opportunities for Levis and explosive plays through the air. Robert Saleh vowed that the Jets would correct their rushing defense this week. Now, it’s time for the players to do their jobs on the field.
