A 27-year-old man was fatally wounded Friday night while he was a passenger of a vehicle on the West Side in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 11:15 p.m., the victim was a passenger of a vehicle in the 4700 block of West Lake Street when someone in a blue sedan opened fire, striking him to the chest, police said.

He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
