Felony charges filed against South Elgin man accused of sex crimes against juvenile in Palatine

KANE COUNTY, Ill. — Felony charges have been filed against a Kane County man accused of sex crimes against a juvenile.

According to Palatine police, 21-year-old Juan Castro-Alvarez, a South Elgin resident, is facing a handful of felony charges, including one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, one count of grooming and one count of traveling to meet a minor.

Police were clued into the alleged crimes after the victim came forward to their mother about the abuse, which officers said unfolded earlier in the year in Palatine.

According to Palatine police, 21-year-old Juan Castro-Alvarez, a South Elgin resident, is facing a handful of felony charges, including one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, one count of grooming and one count of traveling to meet a minor.

After Castro-Alvarez was identified as a suspect in the case, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office approved the charges against him.

Castro-Alvarez appeared at the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows on Thursday for a detention hearing, where a judge denied him pre-trial release.

Castro-Alvarez is set to make his next court appearance on Thursday, Oct. 10, in Rolling Meadows.
