KANE COUNTY, Ill. — Felony charges have been filed against a Kane County man accused of sex crimes against a juvenile.
According to Palatine police, 21-year-old Juan Castro-Alvarez, a South Elgin resident, is facing a handful of felony charges, including one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, one count of grooming and one count of traveling to meet a minor.
Police were clued into the alleged crimes after the victim came forward to their mother about the abuse, which officers said unfolded earlier in the year in Palatine.
After Castro-Alvarez was identified as a suspect in the case, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office approved the charges against him.
Castro-Alvarez appeared at the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows on Thursday for a detention hearing, where a judge denied him pre-trial release.
Castro-Alvarez is set to make his next court appearance on Thursday, Oct. 10, in Rolling Meadows.
