How Post Preps Top 10 teams fared in Week 3

Class 5A

1. Cherry Creek (2-1) won vs. Regis Jesuit, 42-7. The Bruins’ first game in Colorado this season ended in a rout, as the Creek defense held Regis scoreless until the late stages of the fourth quarter. The Bruins have now beaten the Raiders six straight times dating back to 2020 and have topped 40 points in each of the last three meetings. Next week: at Highland Park (Texas), 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

2. Mountain Vista (3-0) at Cherokee Trail, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: Bye.

3. Columbine (3-0) won vs. Fossil Ridge, 35-21: Running backs James Basinger (27 carries, 250 yards) and Mark Snyder (12-112) took turns gashing the Fossil Ridge defense to the tune of 362 yards and all five Columbine TDs. Basinger’s final scoring run, from 39 yards out, gave Columbine a 35-14 lead midway through the fourth quarter that was too much for Fossil Ridge to overcome. Senior QB Nick Kubat had 169 yards and three TDs on 20-of-30 passing in the loss. Next week: vs. 4A No. 7 Vista Ridge, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

4. Valor Christian (2-0) at Salt Lake City East, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Mullen, 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

5. Legend (2-1) vs. Prairie View, 1 p.m. Saturday: The Titans host Prairie View a week after losing in the waning moments to third-ranked Columbine on a field goal. Next week: Bye.

6. Ralston Valley (2-0) vs. Mullen, 7:30 p.m. Friday. Next week: vs. ThunderRidge, 4 p.m. Sept. 19.

7. Chatfield (3-0) won vs. Eaglecrest, 23-16. Cash Williams went over the top from 1 yard out to put the Chargers ahead for good with 19.8 seconds left in a back-and-forth affair. The sophomore threw TD passes to Roni Rohlman and Rome Bell, while Hunter Balderston notched a safety to help Chatfield build a 16-8 lead. But Joe Steiner hooked up with Logan Robitaille for a long TD pass to knot the score at 16-all with 8:56 to go, forcing Chatfield to produce the late heroics. Next week: vs. Brighton, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20.

8. Fairview (2-0) vs. Boulder, 5:30 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Monarch, 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

9. Grandview (0-3) lost at Legacy, 34-27: The Wolves saw a 14-point lead evaporate as Legacy scored four straight TDs in the second half. Tyler Anderson scored three (two rushing) and sophomore QB Andrew Gardner hit Dominic Mezarina for a 29-yard strike on the last of his three TD passes to take the lead for good. Gardner finished with 219 yards and two picks on 14-of-23 passing, while junior Peyton Studebaker had four catches for 123 yards. Grandview QB Blitz McCarty threw one TD pass to Xay Neto and ran for two more. Next week: at Rock Canyon, 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

10. Castle View (2-0) at Horizon, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Douglas County, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

Class 4A

1. Palmer Ridge (2-0) at Lewis-Palmer, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Longmont, 7 p.m. Sept. 19.

2. Broomfield (3-0) won at Rocky Mountain, 51-7: Quarterback Darien Jackson threw touchdown passes to four different receivers, Colin Torres and Elliot Less added rushing TDs and the Eagles topped 40 points for the third straight game to start the season. Next week: vs. Legacy, 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

3. Montrose (3-0) Bye: The Red Hawks got a week off after rolling through their first three opponents by a combined score of 125-36. They have won nine straight regular-season games dating back to last season. Next week: vs. Grand Junction Central, 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

4. Mesa Ridge (2-0) at No. 8 Dakota Ridge, 7:30 p.m. Friday. Next week: vs. No. 6 Heritage, 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

5. Pueblo West (3-0) vs. 3A No. 2 Lutheran, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: Bye.

6. Heritage (2-1) won vs. Northfield, 40-17. The Eagles rebounded from last week’s loss to Arapahoe in the Milk Jug game with their second 40-point performance of the season. Heritage handed Northfield its third consecutive loss to a ranked opponent to start the season. Next week: at No. 4 Mesa Ridge, 7 p.m. Sept. 20.
