CHICAGO — A man was charged Thursday with the murder of a 12-year-old girl shot on her birthday in 2022.

Rahdeem Calhoun, 23, of Chicago, was arrested by CPD and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in the 7500 block of South Normal and charged with first-degree murder.

He’s accused of being the third suspect in the deadly shooting of Nyzireya Moore — who was shot on March 1, 2022 in the 2300 block of West 72nd Street.

She was inside of a vehicle at the time on the way home from celebrating her 12th birthday.

Moore was transported in critical condition and died three days later at the hospital.

“I’ve been trying to hold it in. Every day. It’s hard. I’ve been trying to be strong for my family,” her father Lawrence Callicott Jr. said at the time. “I don’t know what to do. I just try to go day by day trying to make sure my family is OK.”

Chicago police released surveillance images of three gunmen and two arrests were made in Nov. 2022.

Malik Parish, and Abdul Ali were both charged with first-degree murder related to her homicide.

Police said surveillance video showed Ali, Parish and Calhoun allegedly shooting at another vehicle, when Nyzireya and her family were driving by.

Calhoun’s detention hearing is scheduled for Friday.
