Viral mobile game Flappy Bird could be making a return

US

(KTLA) — The mobile video game phenomenon Flappy Bird could be making a return 10 years after its original creator took it offline, according to multiple reports.

The new version of the game, which will feature new characters and game modes, will debut at the end of October across multiple platforms and web browsers. An app version is expected to be released in 2025.

In 2014, Vietnam-based developer Dong Nguyen removed the viral game from the App Store and Google Play Store, claiming it “ruined his simple life.”

“Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed,” Nguyen told Forbes in 2014. “But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.”

The latest version of the game isn’t a project from Nguyen but instead the Flappy Bird Foundation, which is described as “a new team of passionate fans committed to sharing the game with the world,” according to The Verge.

The original Flappy Bird game was downloaded more than 50 million times.

A trailer for the new game can be found here.
