Several bystanders helped lift a car off of a pedestrian in Somerville on Thursday, WHDH reported.

The car struck the victim while he was walking across the street near the intersection of McGrath Highway and Broadway, police told WHDH.

Construction workers working on a house nearby heard the crash and rushed over to help the pedestrian, the station reported. One good Samaritan, who WHDH identified as Anderson Pacheco, said there was no other option than to lift the car off of the pedestrian. Pacheco told WHDH officers responding to the crash asked for the construction crew’s help to lift the car.

The victim was speaking and conscious when first responders took him to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to WHDH. First responders temporarily shut down the crash scene to clear the area. Police told the station that the driver involved in the crash stayed at the scene.
