Nikki Bella seeks custody of son in Artem Chigvintsev divorce

US

Nikki Bella is seeking legal and physical custody of the young son she shares with estranged husband Artem Chigvintsev, from whom she filed for divorce Wednesday less than two weeks after his arrest for felony domestic violence.

The retired WWE star — whose real name is Nikki Garcia — says she’s open to the “Dancing with the Stars” pro having visitation rights when it comes to 4-year-old son Matteo, as noted in divorce documents, according to TMZ.

She also asked the court not to award spousal support to either party.

Chigvintsev was arrested for felony corporal injury of a spouse on the morning of Aug. 29 — which Bella listed in the documents as their date of separation.

The arrest came just three days after the spouses gushed about each other in respective Instagram posts celebrating their second wedding anniversary. The Russian dancer was released later that afternoon on $25,000 bail.

In the 911 dispatch call obtained by TMZ, the dispatcher said Chigvintsev requested medical assistance after “an argument with his wife,” during which she allegedly “threw shoes at [reporting party].”

Though Chigvintsev rescinded his request shortly after, authorities showed up to the home anyway. Upon finding a victim with visible injuries, they took the “Strictly Come Dancing” alum into custody and booked him into Napa County Jail.

The following day, as Chigvintsev stayed at a friend’s home, Bella reportedly began looking for a divorce lawyer. She has reportedly since obtained Evan Craig Itzkowitz to represent her.

During both of her public appearances over that Labor Day weekend, Bella notably ditched her wedding ring.

Charges against Chigvintsev have since been referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, which is reviewing the case and will decide what, if any, formal charges to file. He’s expected to be arraigned on Nov. 4.
