Police: Woman allegedly smuggled opioid-soaked papers into Cook County Jail

US

CHICAGO — A woman who allegedly smuggled opioid-soaked papers into Cook County Jail is the 39th person to smuggle or possess drug papers at the jail so far this year.

On April 25, Jada Henry, of Chicago, was visiting an inmate at the jail in Division 10 when a correctional officer saw something during a hug.

The officer alleged they saw Henry slip something down the back of the inmates uniform. A pat-down search was conducted and police said a plastic bag contained paper squares with an orange substance on them was recovered.

The papers were then sent to the Illinois State Police lab for testing and came back for the synthetic opioid buprenorphine.

Henry was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with bringing a controlled substance into a penal institution.

She was granted pre-trial release.

The Cook County Sherriff’s Office released video of the alleged incident.

Henry is the 39th person who has been charged in 2024 with smuggling or possessing drug-soaked papers at the jail, according to the Cook County Jail.
