LOS ANGELES – In a 10-8 loss Wednesday to the Dodgers, the Cubs’ comeback fell short. They’ll leave Los Angeles with a series win, but they couldn’t quite pull off the sweep.
Cubs starter Jordan Wicks struggled, giving up four home runs in the first inning alone and totaling seven runs in three innings.
But the Cubs stormed back from the 7-3 deficit, putting together a four-run fifth inning that included a three-run homer from Cody Bellinger.
The Dodgers retook the lead in the seventh inning on Gavin Lux’ RBI single on a line drive up the middle off reliever Shawn Armstrong.
The next inning, Cubs reliever Trey Wingenter gave up a two-run homer to Tommy Edman, who tallied four home runs against the Cubs in two days.
Dodgers reliever Michael Kopech, who the White Sox sent to LA as part of a midseason three-team trade, walked the bases loaded in the ninth inning. Then Isaac Paredes hit a sacrifice fly for the Cubs’ last run of the game.
