Serial burglar targeted women's apartments, stole their underwear: police

US

Police in Irvine have arrested a 19-year-old man who they believe is responsible for multiple burglaries targeting single women at an apartment complex.

Trung Thuan Tran was arrested Tuesday as part of an investigation into multiple burglaries at Park West Apartment Community on the 3900 block of Parkview Lane in Irvine.

Trung Thuan Tran, 19, of Irvine is shown in this mug shot provided by the Irvine Police Department.

Police believe Tran specifically targeted the apartments of single women and would break into their homes and steal cash, small items, credit cards and their undergarments.

Tran was identified as a suspect in the burglaries after he allegedly made a purchase with one of the victim’s stolen credit cards.

The investigation included “intensive surveillance” in the community, according to the Irvine Police Department.

Tran was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Orange County Jail to await charges for burglary and unauthorized use of another person’s credit card.

Detectives believe the same suspect may be responsible for additional break-ins in the area and they are analyzing evidence collected during his arrest to determine if there’s a connection.

Anyone with information about this case or other burglaries is asked to contact IPD Detective Brian Felling via email or by calling 949-724-7189.
