Chappell Roan reacted not so casually to photographers on the VMAs 2024 red carpet.

When the 26-year-old looked away from the flashing cameras as she tried to stage her elaborate dress before taking photos, she swiftly turned around and yelled, “You shut the f–k up!” to a photographer.

Roan continued to scold the unseen paparazzi, pointing at herself with her extra long nails and telling him, “Not me.”

The singer wore a long brown dress accessorized with a thick cross necklace and pulled back her long, curly, fiery red hair.

Tonight, Roan has earned four nominations in the categories of Best New Artist, Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova,” Best Trending Video for “HOT TO GO!,” and Song Of Summer for “Good Luck, Babe!”

The rising star is also set to make her first performance on the VMAs stage. Other artists expected to perform tonight include VMAs 2024 host Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, Halsey, Karol G, Camila Cabello and Eminem.

While on the red carpet Roan took a moment to gush over her VMAs debut.

“Well we have a theme, always have a theme,” the artist said about her medieval look before teasing to fans, “I’m not going to give too much away but I would say take notes. Take it all in and take some notes.”

As for how the star feels about her first performance?

“I am nervous,” said Roan. “There are a lot of technical things going on that I’ve never had happen but we’ve practiced so many times. I feel like this is the next step in my career, so I was like, ‘Dang, okay it feels good to be here.’”

The singer joins a long list of superstars, including Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, who have won the coveted Best New Artist award, something that she doesn’t take lightly.

“I have never won anything so that would be awesome. It’s going to be cool,” Roan confessed. “What I am most nervous about is just performing in front of my peers. Just looking out and seeing people who I’ve listened to forever and I just really look up to, that’s the scary part but it would be crazy to win.”

And if she walks away with a Moon Person, Ronan knows exactly who she’ll thank.

“My ex,” she admitted. “You got me here. I’m really trying not to cuss right now. I’m really trying to be quiet. It’s so hard! But I shout out my thank you’s, but also thank you to my ex, you know the classics.”

And despite her newfound celebrity status, just last month, Roan shared she doesn’t believe people are “entitled” to meet her.

The “Hot To Go!” songstress took a moment to talk about the pressures that come along with fame in a new TikTok video

“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever. I don’t care that it’s normal,” Roan told followers.

She explained that just because it’s normal for stars to accept “this crazy type of behavior” from fans, it “does not make it OK” to do.

“That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it, doesn’t mean that I like it. I don’t want whatever the f–k you think you’re supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity,” Roan clapped back. “I don’t give a f–k if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug –– that’s not normal, that’s weird!”

“I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, OK?” she reiterated.
