A woman’s body was pulled from the water near the mouth of the Quinnipiac River in New Haven, authorities announced Tuesday.
Cops identified the woman as 37-year-old Shannon Arrington, a New Haven resident. Her cause of death remains unclear, according to police.
“Her family has been notified,” New Haven police said in a press release. “Members of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation. They removed the body for an autopsy in order to make a determination on the cause of death.”
Officers responded to the scene around 8 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a body floating in the river near the Brewery Square apartments, police said. The New Haven Fire Department responded to help remove Arrington’s body from the river.
Authorities are now asking for anyone who may have been a witness or have valuable information to contact New Haven police.
Arrington was one of two people to be found dead in tristate area waters on Tuesday.
On Long Island, cops in Nassau County found a man floating dead in Hempstead Harbor, according to Newsday. That man was not publicly identified, and police did not speculate on his cause of death.
The man was located around 6 p.m. near Roslyn, about 10 hours and 50 miles southwest of where Arrington was found dead.
