Harris, Trump prep for debate

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The highly anticipated debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump is Tuesday night.   Many Americans will tune into the debate and some lawmakers are excited to see what unfolds.

It’s a showdown millions of Americans have waited for as both candidates are expected to play to their strengths tonight.

“We should be prepared for the fact that he’s probably going to speak a lot of untruths,” said Harris.

In a new radio interview Harris says she knows what to expect from Trump.

“I think he’s going to lie, and he has a playbook that he has used in the past,” she said.

Harris has spent several days doing mock debates in Pittsburgh while the former president dedicated his time to policy meetings ahead of the debate with key advisors.

“We must defeat comrade Kamala Harris,” said Trump.

Over on Capitol Hill Iowa Republican Congresswoman Mariannette Miller Meeks and Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul hope for a good performance from the former president.

“I’d like to see him to be calm, measured. Talk about policies and to talk about, Vice President Harris’s record,” said Miller Meeks.

McCaul said he wants to see, “less personality and more policy.”

Missouri Democrat Congressman Emanuel Cleaver sees this as a great opportunity for Harris to show the country that Trump isn’t fit for the job.

“If they get down in the weeds on, on, programs of the federal government, I think, Mr. Trump will be completely lost,” said Cleaver.

The debate is 90 minutes with two commercial breaks and two moderators and despite requests from Harris campaign, microphones will be muted when candidates are not speaking.
