A man who was shot while he allegedly tried to break into a woman’s South Shore home has been charged with attempted burglary, court records show.

Christopher Grady, 36, was wounded late Saturday night after a woman in the home where he was trying to climb through a window shot him, according to a police report contained in court records. The woman has a concealed carry license, police said. She ran out of her home and warned Grady that she had a weapon before she fired, according to the police report

Officers found Grady shot on the 6800 block of South Oglesby Avenue and followed a trail of blood down the block to the alleged burglary scene on the 2300 block of East 69th Street, according to the police report. Grady lives about two blocks from where he was shot and about a block from where he was found, records show.

Police arrested Grady at University of Chicago Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the right shin.

Grady appeared in court Monday afternoon before Judge Ankur Srivastava, who ordered him held pending trial. He is next set to appear in court Sept. 13. The concealed carry holder didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
