Boulder city councilwoman Tara Winer and two other people were attacked by a 26-year-old man yelling racial slurs on University Hill on Friday night, according to witnesses and the Boulder Police Department.

A man was yelling racial slurs and disrupting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Nana’s Dim Sum & Dumplings when Winer confronted him and he punched her in the face and knocked her to the ground, she told the Daily Camera.

Boulder Chamber and city officials gathered outside the restaurant at 1125 13th. St., when a man walking past the ceremony started yelling at people and wielding a knife, said Chamber President John Tayer.

The man appeared to leave the area but later returned, Tayer said.
