Chicago-area temperatures drop into 40s before a return to summer next week

A touch of fall was in the air Saturday in the Chicago area, but it wasn’t expected to last long.

Temperatures across the Chicago suburbs were forecast to dip into the 40s Saturday night for the first time since May. Chicago’s low for the night was forecast for 53 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

A beach hazard also is in effect through Saturday night, calling for waves between 4 to 8 feet and dangerous current, the weather service said.

“Remain out of the water to avoid dangerous swimming conditions and do not venture out onto piers, jetties, breakwalls, or other shoreline structures,” the weather service said.

But the weather should warm up quickly, as temperatures are expected to return to the 70s on Sunday and into the mid- to-upper-80s early next week.

No rain is in the forecast for the next week.
