GARY, Ind. – A woman from Merrillville, Indiana, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-80 early Saturday morning.

Indiana State Police said the crash happened at around 3:50 a.m. near the 8.4 mile-marker on I-80.

A silver Hyundai Santa Fe rear-ended a white Lazy Boy box truck in the right center lane. The initial investigation indicated the Hyundai was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the box truck. The box truck then lost control and crashed into the center median wall, knocking down a light pole, according to investigators.

Authorities said the box truck then crossed all lanes of traffic before crashing into a right ditch.

After the initial impact, investigators said the driver of the Hyundai was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, while the Hyundai continued to head east for about a quarter mile before coming to an uncontrolled stop.

The driver of the Hyundai has been identified as 25-year-old Darya Foster. The driver and passenger of the box truck were taken to Methodist Northlake Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
