Dennis Quaid makes rare comment about Meg Ryan marriage

Dennis Quaid isn’t sleepless over the end of his marriage to Meg Ryan.

The 70-year-old recently reflected on his 10-year union with the “When Harry Met Sally” actress, 62, whom he married in 1991.

While appearing on the Friday episode of ”Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” on Max, the journalist, 76, asked Quaid how much strain the former couple’s combined fame put on their relationship.

“How about that? When I met Meg I was here as far as career thing and she was here and then it just went like that,” Quaid replied, indicating with his hands that Ryan’s level of fame rose well above his while together.

“I tried to be a big person and tell myself that didn’t bother me, but people are human,” the star continued. “She was ascending as I went into rehab and Meg is really such a great, sweet person and really talented and deserved all her success.”

Quaid wouldn’t change their romance, which brought them their 32-year-old son Jack.

“But I don’t regret anything about my marriage to Meg, and we got Jack Quaid out of it who is really going on to maybe eclipse both of us,” he added.

Meg and Quaid’s son has continued to land major acting roles in recent years, including becoming a series regular on “The Boys” and having a supporting role in the hit film “Oppenheimer.”

This isn’t the first time Quaid has reflected on Ryan’s rise to prominence during their marriage. He previously admitted that, at times, he felt somewhat overshadowed by the “Sleepless in Seattle” alum.

“When we met I was the big deal,” Quaid recalled during a 2018 appearance on “Megyn Kelly Today.” “We’d go out on the streets of New York and it would be like, ‘Meg! Meg!’ And I have to admit it, I actually did feel like I disappeared. I didn’t think I was that small, but I was. It was a growth opportunity — I learned from that.”

“The Parent Trap” actor noted that regardless of the pressures in the spotlight, his marriage to Ryan was “the most successful relationship of my life.”

The former couple was viewed as one of Hollywood’s power couples for years before splitting due to alleged infidelity on both sides. At the time of their breakup, Ryan was spotted cozying up to her “Proof of Life” co-star Russell Crowe.

But the starlet insisted that Crowe, 60, wasn’t to blame for the end of their “very unhealthy marriage” during a 2006 appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

“I think once the tabloids get a hold of three celebrity names you’re just really in trouble … I didn’t leave my marriage for Russell Crowe,” she added. “I left my marriage.”

During an interview with InStyle a few years later, the rom-com queen touched on Quaid’s infidelity.

“It was a great story. But what wasn’t in the story was the reality of my marriage for nine years,” Ryan told the outlet, per Honey. “Dennis was not faithful to me for a long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that once I was divorced.”

Quaid was previously married to P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983. He later wed Kimberly Buffington from 2004 to 2018. He is currently married to Laura Savoie, with whom he tied the knot in 2020.

Meanwhile, Ryan was in an on-and-off relationship with singer John Mellencamp until she broke off their engagement for good in 2019.

In 2023, the actress, who is also mom to daughter Daisy, 20, who she adopted in 2006, admitted that dating hasn’t become easier with age.

“It’s just as ridiculous as ever,” Ryan told Glamour in 2023. “I don’t think anyone ever gets good at it. Maybe people do. I don’t.”

Sharing her worst date ever, the icon recalled: “I went on a date in college where he took me on a motorcycle ride all over northern Connecticut and Massachusetts. It was great. We ended up having dinner, and when we rode back to my dorm room, I was like, ‘I had the greatest time, Phil.’ And his name was something like Bob. I never heard from him again. I had it all wrong, but it was fun.”
