CHICAGO — Jewel Osco’s first ever charity volleyball tournament — celebrating Jewel’s 125th anniversary — took place Thursday night, and here couldn’t have been nicer weather for the event at North Avenue Beach.

34 teams are competing in the event, featuring about 180 people, with some of them being Jewel employees, while others are just big fans of volleyball who want the chance to compete and give back.

“Every one on my team, aside from one person is 6’1’’,” said Derek Scark. “We are Joey’s Giants – set real high, spike real hard, I think that will give us the championship.”

The four winners tonight will get checks worth 1250 bucks each to donate to the charity of their choice.
