Queens fire claims 72-year-old man, injuries three others

A blaze that erupted in the basement of a Queens house killed an elderly man and injured three others Thursday, police and firefighters said.

The fire ignited around 5:14 p.m. in the basement of the 132nd St. home near 95th Ave. in South Richmond Hill, according to firefighters.

Smoke eaters pulled a 72-year-old man from the basement with life-threatening injuries, and he was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, cops said.

A firefighter and two other occupants suffered minor injuries in the blaze, firefighters said.
