City Bar, City Table, Sólás Irish Pub to close at Lenox Hotel

The three restaurants at Lenox Hotel are closing at the end of October, as the owners of the Back Bay hotel make way for new concepts.

The restaurants impacted at City Bar, City Table, and Sólás Irish Pub — popular destinations on Boylston Street, particularly during the Boston Marathon. Boston.com received a joint statement from The Briar Group, which owns the three restaurants, and The Lenox Hotel, owned by the Saunders Hotel Group. A spokesperson said the three restaurants will close once the Briar Group’s lease is up on Oct. 31. 

“We are honored to have had the privilege of operating in the Lenox for 23 years, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our staff who have played a vital role in creating exceptional experiences for our guests,” the spokesperson said.

The Lenox Hotel is instead bringing operations in-house and “is fine-tuning concepts, menus, and branding.” But even after the Briar Group restaurants have their last day of service, a spokesperson confirmed that the actual restaurant spaces and kitchen services aren’t closing to guests.

A spokesperson said they’ll have more information on these new concepts in several weeks, so it isn’t immediately clear how much the new spots will differ from the previous tenants. City Bar is a trendy cocktail bar serving small plates, City Table is a casual New American eatery, and Sólás is an Irish pub. 

The employees impacted by these closures — 136 of them, according to a WARN notice filed with the state — “will have the opportunity to fill roles at either the Lenox Hotel, or at other Briar Group bars and restaurants in the future,” according to the spokesperson. They also added that the company wasn’t laying off people or eliminating positions.
