Two officers injured after shooting in Macomb, nearby Western Illinois University closed for day

MACOMB, Ill. (WMBD) — Two police officers were injured after a shooting near Normal and Calhoun streets in Macomb on Wednesday night, while the suspect remained barricaded inside a home early Thursday morning.

As a result, nearby Western Illinois University has been closed for the day Thursday to ensure the safety of students, a university spokesperson said.

According to information released by the Macomb Police Department, two officers are in the hospital in “critical but stable condition.” The Macomb Police Chief said the officers were awake and talking.

The officers were injured while serving a warrant in the area at about 6:45 p.m.

The suspect remains in the home where officers were serving the warrant, and officers have the home surrounded. There is believed to be no threat to the community at this time. People are encouraged to avoid the area.
