Austin hosts city council candidate panels ahead of November election

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin voters can learn more about the 23 people running for a city council position ahead of the November election at multiple candidate forums in the next month.

There are open seats in districts 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, and an open seat for the mayoral position. We have a detailed list about who is running for each position.

Tonight the forums will kick-off in district 7. It is the most crowded race with seven people vying for a spot. The current council member, Leslie Pool, has reached her term limit and can not run again.

The forum will be held at the Northwest Recreation Center at 2913 Northland Drive. All forums will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Here is the schedule for the remaining five forums happening in the next month:

  • Mayor Candidates – Oct. 3 at Austin City Hall
  • District 2 Candidates – Sep. 25 at George Morales Dove Springs Recreation Center, 5801 Ainez Drive
  • District 4 Candidates – Sep. 19 at City Of Austin Permitting And Development Center, 6310 Wilhelmina Delco Drive
  • District 6 Candidates – Oct. 7 at Hope Presbyterian Church, 11512 Olson Drive
  • District 10 Candidates – Sep. 30 at Dell Jewish Community Campus – Epstein Family Community Hall, 7300 Hart Lane

You must live in one of those districts to vote for your city council representative. Every Austin voter will have the chance to vote on who they want to be mayor. You can search your address here to see which district you are located and allowed to vote in.
