(WJW) — Legendary musician Elton John says he is on the road to recovery after suffering from a severe eye infection this summer.

The “Rocket Man” singer opened up about the illness on Instagram Tuesday, saying the infection has left him with “only limited vision in one eye.”

“I am healing, but it is an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he said. “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.”

John went on to say he’s been spending the summer at home and feels positive about the recovery progress so far. He did not elaborate on what may have caused the eye infection.

Fans and celebrities shared their well wishes in the comments, with former tennis star Billie Jean King saying, “Sending our love and support your way. Feel better soon, friend,” and fashion designer Donatella Versace saying, “Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you.”

This comes roughly a year after John was hospitalized due to a fall at his home in Nice, France. He was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure and quickly discharged.

Earlier this year, John won an Emmy, earning him EGOT status (which entails winning at least one of each: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony).
