IDOT: Kennedy Expressway closures overnight through Sept. 14 in order to replace overhead signs

US

CHICAGO — Overnight ramp and lane closures necessary to replace large overhead signs on the Kennedy Expressway began Tuesday night and are scheduled to take place over 12 nights, culminating Monday, Sept. 14, weather permitting, the Illinois Department of Transportation has announced.

To complete the work, IDOT says, drivers should expect overnight and weekend ramp and lane closures, down to one lane approaching each location. Travel delays are anticipated, and alternate routes are recommended.

According to IDOT, the closures are scheduled to take place from approximately 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and from 10 p.m. Saturdays to 7 a.m. Sundays. Starting at 1 a.m. each night, IDOT says full stops for no longer than 15 minutes at a time will take place.
