Two people are in custody after a stolen vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash in San Bernardino County late last month, officials announced.

The high-speed chase occurred on August 23 after an officer with the Montclair Police Department spotted two suspects inside a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

When police followed the suspects, the driver sped up in an attempt to evade officers.

In footage of the chase released by Montclair PD, the driver is seen hitting high speeds on residential streets and then after a right turn toward the eastbound 10 Freeway, quickly turns left under the freeway with one patrol cruiser in chase.

The suspect was seen splitting lanes in heavy traffic and driving in the turning lane as he approached an intersection.

A short time later, the officer pulls up on the smoking vehicle after it crashed on a dead-end street, the impact of the collision causing the stolen blue Toyota’s airbags to deploy.

Both suspects had fled the vehicle into the neighborhood.

Body-worn camera footage shows the officer exiting his patrol vehicle with his firearm drawn as two patrol units with the Pomona Police Department arrive to assist.

One of the suspects was quickly located in a nearby backyard where he surrendered.

Police said the second suspect was captured with the assistance of Pomona PD.
