Barton Springs Pool likely closed for several weeks after holes found

US

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Barton Springs Pool will likely be closed for several weeks as crews fix two large holes in the pool, the city said Tuesday.

The repairs started over Labor Day weekend after two holes were found in a 1940s pipe, the city said. Water was pulled into an abandoned pipe below the pool’s dam and created a safety hazard for swimmers.

City engineers are creating a long-term solution that ensures public safety and endangered species protection, the city said. Timelines for a solution depend on conditions throughout the repair process.

In the meantime, Deep Eddy Pool will open at 6 a.m. daily to accommodate swimmers. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is expected to give periodic updates online.

Barking Springs visitors should also avoid cordoned-off areas as the crews fix the pool.
