Southern California is bracing for a prolonged heat wave that will bring afternoon highs well above 100 degrees for many areas.
The western San Fernando Valley will be hit extremely hard with several days of temperatures hovering around 110 degrees on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Excessive heat warnings go into effect late Wednesday morning and will continue through at least Friday, the National Weather Service stated.
“All valleys, mountains, deserts, and inland areas of Los Angeles County, including Downtown Los Angeles” will be affected, the Weather Service stated.
Temperatures across the Inland Empire will also expected to approach 110 degrees on Thursday and Friday.
“The heat is for everybody here in Southern California,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said. “When we get to Thursday and Friday, we’re 15 degrees above the average … This is just day after day after day of heat.”
Downtown Los Angeles temperatures will climb from the lower 90s Tuesday to around 100 degrees later in the week.
Fire officials will be on high alert in the high desert where winds are expected to pick up Tuesday.
“Heat and winds are never a good combination for firefighters,” Henry said.
Thunderstorms are also possible for some inland locations throughout the week.
Weekend temperatures are expected to cool slightly but will still remain above average.
