Augmented cooling centers are opening across Los Angeles County as excessive heat warnings take effect, Mayor Karen Bass’ office announced Monday.

“Augmented Cooling Centers are sites that are operated by Los Angeles city or county partners with days and/or hours of operation that differ from that sites standard hours of operation or are added during specific heat events to expand Cooling Center services, according to the Ready L.A. County website.

The following cooling center locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning on Tuesday:

  • Fred Roberts Recreation Center: 4700 Honduras St. in Los Angeles
  • Mid Valley Senior Center: 8801 Kester Ave in Panorama City
  • Sunland Senior Center: 8640 Fenwick St. in Sunland
  • Jim Gilliam Recreation Center: 4000 S. La Brea Ave. in Los Angeles
  • Lincoln Heights Senior Center: 2323 Workman St. in Los Angeles

Climate stations that provide cold beverages, seating, shade and more will be open to Skid Row residents at the following locations:

  • Towne Street, between 5th and 6th streets, across the street from the Refresh Spot in Los Angeles
  • San Pedro Street, mid-block between 6th and 7th streets in Los Angeles
  • 5th and Maple streets in Los Angeles

The heat warnings are expected to impact the entire Los Angeles region by Wednesday.

Officials continue to urge residents to stay hydrated and avoid being outside during the hottest times of the day. Here are some tips to stay cool.

  • Stay cool by staying in the shade outside, setting air conditioners between 75 and 80 degrees, and closing windows, shades and blinds when inside.
  • If those options aren’t feasible, people can visit nearby cooling centers. A list of ones across California can be found here.
  • Drink at least 2 cups of water every hour, even if you’re not feeling thirsty.
  • Check in on friends and family, especially elderly relatives or neighbors. Call 911 in cases of a high fever or other emergencies.
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Wear sunscreen and avoid too much sun time.
  • Bring pets inside and make sure they have fresh water.
